Malleshwaram Heritage Trail

A Walk Through Bengaluru’s Cultural Heart.

Malleshwaram Heritage Trail

Overview

The Malleshwaram Heritage Trail explores one of Bengaluru’s oldest and most culturally rich neighbourhoods. Often seen only as a planned suburb of the 1890s, Malleshwaram’s story actually begins much earlier, going back to at least the 17th century.

This guided walking trail traces the journey of Malleshwaram from a forested hill settlement known as Mallapura to a planned suburb, and eventually to a centre of education, culture, and community life. Using verified inscriptions, historical records, and on-ground storytelling, the walk connects temples, markets, institutions, and homes that shaped the area’s identity.

The trail is slow-paced, immersive, and story-led, designed for anyone who wants to understand Bengaluru beyond modern buildings.
